Confucius, a Chinese philosopher, once said, "bBefore you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves." Some people think of Rrevenge as a way to get their rights back.; Tthe rights that the unfairness of life took from them. They feel the need to hold on to whomever pushed them off a cliff so they can both fall together. Some people think of Rrevenge as a good way to release anger. However, the ones who go through the phase of wanting to get revenge are going through some mental and physical challenges that could potentially lead to their deaths. The struggle with revenge is centuries old. Many writers and poets wrote about revenge and how it affects people’s lives. In the works of William Shakespeare's novel, "Hamlet", and Robert Williams's poem, “A Hero”, the theme of revenge is evident. In "Hamlet", Hamlet’s father passed away, his uncle, Polonius, married his mother, Gertrude, and a mysterious apparition accuses his uncle of murder. On the other hand, In “A Hero”, the poem itells a about a person who is going through mental anguish because of, battling the demons inside of him after his urge to kill. At the end of the poem, it is evident twhat the hero commits, after giving up. The reason why he kills himself is clevidearntly unclear, but for the fact that he had the urge to kill someone could mean that he is seeking revenge. In both the novel and poem, the theme of Rrevenge is eobvidentous, since both the main characters try to kill someone. Hamlet tried to kill his uncle, while the main character in the poem had the urge to kill three times. Furthermore, Rreligion plays an enormous part in the novel and the poem, since the main characters believe in demons and God. Lastly, Tthe novel and the poem show a man vs. himself conflict. In Hamlet, Hamlet thinks about committing suicide.; Oon the other hand, the main character in the poem commits suicide at the end.
